First Snow North Shore Mountains: Olympic Predictions

We woke up Friday morning to fresh snow on the local mountains. Grouse Mountain opened for skiing on the 13th of November for the first time in recent memory. Is this a good omen from the snow gods with respect to what we can expect in terms of snow during the Olympic run in February? Or is El NiƱo still coming as the scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted in July?

Cypress Mountain has covered it's butt with mega snow making machines and lots of extra labour so they will have snow for the Olympics no matter what. 2 meters of snow is common at the base during mid-February even without man-made snow.

Lately I've been working in Richmond. The drive home is always lovely because I can look ahead and watch the snow line creep down the mountains.

By the by, if you head to Richmond for a 7:30 start and head back home at 4 pm the traffic over Lion's Gate and through downtown is minimal - about 40 minutes each way.
