I just got home from attending the third of these three sessions (tonight's was at the NS Winter Club).

I thought tonight's session was good as well though I do think the acoustics in tonight's room were less than ideal to put it mildly.

I took part in 2 groups: one on densification particularly with respect to Seymour and another on waterfront access which I understood to mean access by the public to the waterfront (which in the District is pretty much non-existent west of the Seymour River) but ended up being primarily about waterfront jobs.

The consensus was that not nearly enough coordination was being done between DNV, CNV, the Squamish/Tseil-wa-Tuth and the Vancouver Port Authority (i.e. Ottawa) and that we have REALLY suffered from lack of input from the VPA.

It was pointed out that DNV _alone_ (i.e. without the rest of Vancouver) was the #15 port in North America and that Ottawa seems more than a bit uncaring about listening to us.

I was very impressed by the whole evening - except that it meant being inside in such weather.

Dee was very entertaining (I don't think I have ever seen her 'live' before - she was very good). The Mayor was his usually eloquent self and the panel made many good and diverse points. Like Lyle, I, too, liked the skewing to the interests of the younger group of teen - 30 year olds that are literally getting squeezed out of the District. Though I felt my age when the discussion got to the lack of great clubs in the District that are open past midnight.

Denise Jones, the 'talk show host', was very funny and jazzed what I thought would be a fairly staid and dry subject matter. Kudos to the Lanarc for coming up with this approach.

Good numbers came out...it looked like the Hall was almost full.

For those who missed it, it is worth taking in.

Saturday June 20th at Norgate Elementary School from 1-4 pm with the theme "Our People".

I enjoyed the session as well and was glad that inclusiveness particularly with respect to those aged 20-35 was a big theme of the night. We hear constantly about seniors (who I think are rather well treated on the North Shore) but what I really want to hear from DNV and Council specifically is what they have to say to my 17 year old son who wants to live here but feels housing prices are likely to soon give him the "bum's rush" from the community he grew up in!

15 years from now I'll be thinking retirement while he'll be coming into his prime earning years - and if things don't change and soon he'll be somewhere else and NOT by his own choice.

I thought it was very well done. It was funny, and it addressesd pretty much every major issue facing the community. I was a bit dissappointed that "Height" was never mentioned. It was the perfect opportunity to talk about taboos like height.
